Who Is The Rugby Player Who Got Engaged At The Olympics? It Was Super Emotional

There is simply something about the Olympic Games that makes a person (like this girl right here) a blubbering mess. It could be the international aspect, all of those people together for perhaps the first and last time of their lives, or maybe it's the thought of people dedicating their whole lives for this one moment in the sun. Or watching people climb the podium, hand over heart, their national flag waving in the background as their anthem is played. And now there is this: a rugby player got engaged at the Olympics with a beautiful, emotional proposal and, again, I bawled like an infant.

Monday was a historic day all around for 25-year-old Isabella Cerullo. She plays for the Brazilian women's rugby team and her team narrowly missed making it to the finals at the Rio Olympics (the Brazilian team placed ninth in the rugby sevens competition); this was the first time in history a women's rugby team competed in the Olympics at all, so already pretty impressive, right? Then her girlfriend, 28-year-old Deodora stadium manager Marjorie Enya, decided to give "the love of her life" another opportunity to become part of history: she proposed to Cerullo on the rugby pitch after the Brazilian team lost to Australia. This was the first marriage proposal at the Rio Olympics... and just get ready, guys. It's a beautiful thing.

Cerullo accepted her proposal (thank God, because how awkward would that have been?), and Enya gave a touching speech before their amazing, passionate liplock, according to BBC Sport. "As soon as I knew she was in the squad I thought I have to make this special. I know rugby people are amazing and they would embrace it," Marjorie Enya said. And embrace it they certainly did. While Enya admitted she was nervous about asking Cerullo to marry her in such a public way, there was a brilliant message she wanted to share. "The Olympic Games can look like closure but, for me, it's starting a new life with someone," Enya said. "I wanted to show people that love wins."

All of the emotions... I can't even. Between the crowd cheering them on, and Cerullo crying her happy little eyes out, and that kiss heard round the world... it might have been the end of the Brazilian women's rugby team at the 2016 Olympics. But (and forgive me my moment of total sap) it was a big win for love.
