Kat On 'The Bold Type' Is A Force To Be Reckoned With

Although fans have to say goodbye to some of their favorite shows for the summer, the change in seasons also brings some new shows and that includes Freeform's new dramedy, The Bold Type. The new series is inspired by the life of Cosmopolitan editor in chief Joanna Coles, and follows the lives of three woman trying to making a name for themselves at Scarlet, a global women's magazine. One of those women is Kat, but who plays Kat on The Bold Type? Aisha Dee plays the go-getter role.

Fans will probably recognize Dee from her role as Beth, April's best friend, on the former Freeform series Chasing Life. However, she also recently starred in MTV's new series Sweet/Vicious as Kennedy as well. Unfortunately, the series, which looked at sexual assault on college campuses, was cancelled after only it's first season. But now thanks to The Bold Type, fans will get to see Dee back up on their television screens once more.

Prior to Chasing Life, Dee had recurring roles in a number of different TV shows, including I Hate My Teenage Daughter, Terra Nova, Dead Gorgeous, and The Saddle Club. She also made an appearance on the Freeform comedy Baby Daddy and appeared in the TV movie Skyrunners. While Dee has been acting for years, this is the first time she's one of the leads of a TV show and it's a well-deserved role.

Based on the previews, it's clear Dee's character, Kat, knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it. In the promos, fans have already seen her punch a man in the face and attempt to convince a Muslim artist that Scarlet magazine is a feminist company that she should work with. She's also not afraid to speak up about her opinion in a boardroom meeting, calling out someone for still using the term "vajayjay" in place of vagina. Kat seems to be headstrong, confident, and not afraid to let her voice heard, which is why she's clearly the bold type.

It'll be interesting to see how her story plays out over the course of the show's first season and how she, along with her friends Jane (Katie Stevens) and Sutton (Meghann Fahy) make themselves stand out at Scarlet magazine and in the world. The Bold Type is clearly all about girl power and it's great to see a show that will be led by such incredibly strong and diverse women.
