Jaime Owes Someone A Big Debt On 'Game Of Thrones'

It might not have been as long as "Battle of the Bastards," but Sunday’s Game of Thrones proved that you really can fit an epic battle into the shortest episode of the series so far. At different points throughout those precious 50 minutes, it seemed like almost anyone could have been done for good. But at the last possible second, someone pushed Cersei’s favorite brother out of the line of fire, literally. So who saved Jaime Lannister on Game of Thrones?

He still has a few allies left and more than likely, it was Bronn. The money-hungry soldier has been a source of comedic relief since he became Tyrion’s savior back in Season 1. But in recent seasons, he’s also become a close confidant to Jaime and really, his only friend who isn’t someone we’d consider a "bad guy" of Westeros. At the beginning of the episode, he was going on about the castle Jaime had promised him long ago and even joked about taking Highgarden for himself. Come on, Bronn, really? But when push came to shove, Bronn stepped up and took some serious action.

He could have taken his gold and run away to settle down in the countryside with a moderately fancy home, but instead, he stayed to fight. He was even the one person to bust out Qyburn’s weapon for dragons and shoot Drogon with a huge spear. So it would make total sense for Bronn to be the one who saved Jaime on Game of Thrones when Drogon was about to burn him alive.

On the other hand, Jaime’s mysterious knight in not-so-shining armor could have been Dickon Tarly. That’s right, Samwell’s younger brother who their father saw fit to train as a soldier instead of banish to Castle Black. Although he seemed kind of like an '80s movie jock when we first met him at the end of Season 6, Dickon did save Jaime once during the battle on Game of Thrones Sunday night, so he could have easily been the one to do it a second time at the end of the episode.

There was also a lot of emphasis placed on him before the battle and even more emphasis on the fact that Randyll Tarly must have been as bad as Tywin Lannister, so at the very least, he and Jaime have awful dads in common. But since there was some focus on Dickon on Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 4, he either saved Jaime or he's discovered as dead when the smoke clears.

Since the more likely scenario places Bronn as Jaime’s savior, he’s probably the one who knocked Jaime off his horse and into the sea just as Drogon’s mouthful of fire shot out. Now, Jaime definitely owes him a big old castle.
