Cersei May Have A Chilling Fate On 'Game Of Thrones'

by Zakiya Jamal

Though it's been a long wait, Game of Thrones Season 7 is finally almost here, and naturally, fans have already begun theorizing about what's to come (not that they ever really stopped). There have been a few trailers for the new season, but one that immediately caught my eye was the "Long Walk" promo, in which Daenerys, Jon Snow, and Cersei walk to their respective thrones. At the end of the teaser, Cersei lets out a sigh and out comes that cold, white breath that is always associated with the White Walkers. So will Cersei team up with the White Walkers on Game of Thrones or is something else in store for her?

If anyone is daring enough to try and team up with the White Walkers, it's be Cersei. As fans saw at the end of Season 6, Cersei is willing to do just about anything to make sure she wins. So if the White Walkers are the only chance she has at maintaining her throne, she may just take it. However, the White Walkers aren't exactly rational creatures, if you ask me. Even if Cersei attempted to work with them, she'd most likely end up dead and become a part of their ever-growing army. Still, that doesn't mean Cersei won't at least try.

Alternatively, Cersei breathing that now iconic cold air could've also just been another reminder that winter has finally arrived in Westeros. It's this cold air that has always signaled White Walkers were nearby. Cersei letting out that breath could've just served as yet another warning that the real war lies with the White Walkers who are coming for everyone, regardless of who sits upon the Iron Throne.

Still, one has to wonder why it was Cersei who served as the sign that winter is coming. It could've been Jon Snow, who's closest to the White Walkers and will be the living's first line of defense against them. So, why Cersei? Maybe she won't try to team up with the White Walkers — maybe she'll be the first of the three leaders to die at their hand.

Jon Snow seems to be the most reasonable of the three rulers, in that he knows they need to stop fighting each other and prepare for the "Great War" against this supernatural threat. Knowing Cersei, she won't even believe Jon if he tries to warn her of what's coming. She'll probably think it's an empty threat and not take it seriously. Then she could end up dying because of her own hubris, which seems very Game of Thrones-esque.

Whatever the reasoning, if there is a Cersei-White Walker face-off, it'll certainly be entertaining. You can see what's in store for Cersei and the rest of Westeros when Game of Thrones Season 7 premieres on HBO at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 16.
