A Hodor Return Could Still Happen On 'Game Of Thrones'

Ever since Hodor sacrificed himself to save Bran during Season 6 of Game of Thrones, I can’t help but think of him every time I say or hear the words “hold the door” and I refuse to believe that I’m the only one. But since it’s all coming to an end with two much shorter final seasons, will Hodor return for Game of Thrones Season 7? He was a fan favorite despite having said literally one word the entire time he was on the show, and even though he died doing something extremely brave and important, it’s hard not to wonder if Hodor could somehow show up again on Game of Thrones.

Although Kristian Nairn, who plays Hodor, and fans alike would be totally into his return as a White Walker, Nairn doesn’t see that happening anytime soon, but never say never. According to an interview with the Belfast Telegraph, Nairn isn’t opposed to the idea of returning as a White Walker, even if he doesn’t necessarily see it happening right off the bat.

"As a fan, I’m not sure I would love that," Nairn admitted. "But as an actor, I would absolutely love that and it would be so much fun to play that." But as we all know, Game of Thrones is proof that you should never say never and Nairn hinted as much, just in case something changes in the near future. "I’m just going to say no, but I might be lying," he added. "I can’t give anything away. I have let things slip before by accident, and I’ve learned the hard way." That kind of sounds promising, right?

Even if Hodor doesn’t return to Game of Thrones as a White Walker, though, there’s always the possibility of him returning in a flashback. Since viewers have seen firsthand what Bran can do and how he can see into the past, there’s no reason to totally count out the possibility of Hodor returning in that form at least.

Additionaly, Nairn pointed out to Entertainment Weekly that "You don’t actually see him [die]. It’s implied. So who knows? He may come back as a White Walker, maybe he got away." With Game of Thrones you never know, and things could certainly change. But with 13 episodes total remaining of the entire series, there’s probably far too much content to fit in to finish every storyline with very little room to add a Bran and Hodor reunion, whether that be in the past or present.

One thing is for sure, though, and that’s the fact that Hodor had a good ride and outlived enough characters on Game of Thrones to be remembered as something of a legend.
