A Targaryen Dynasty May Rise On 'Game Of Thrones'

by Zakiya Jamal

The return of Game of Thrones is almost upon us and winter is finally here. Along with the impending arrival of White Walkers, Daenerys, along with her Hand of the Queen Tyrion Lannister, will finally cross the sea and make their way to King's Landing. Though this will be Daenerys' first time there, for Tyrion this is a return home and it'll be interesting to see how this reunion goes. Besides the very likely face-off between Tyrion and his siblings, many fans are also wondering will Jon Snow and Tyrion reunite on Game of Thrones? It's certainly possible.

The last time Tyrion and Jon were seen together was back in Season 1 when Tyrion went with him to the Wall and Castle Black. During the time they were together, the two bonded over their outsider status, Tyrion as a dwarf and Jon as a bastard (though fans now know the truth of his parentage). It was Tyrion who helped Jon by pointing out his skills over the others at Castle Black, which ultimately led Jon to teaching his fellow Watchers of the Wall and gaining their respect.

Now that Tyrion is accompanying Daenerys to take back the Iron Throne, it's possible Tyrion and Jon will team up again, if Jon decides to support Daenerys' cause. Furthermore, photos have surfaced of Kit Harrington and Peter Dinklage together on set (and in costume), which only helps to fuel the flames of fan theories that these two will meet up again and soon. The only question seems to be: when?

The reunion between Jon and Tyrion, along with Daenerys, is part of the popular Targaryen trifecta theory. Now that the theory of Jon being Rhaegar Targaryen's son and Daenerys' nephew has been confirmed, fans are even more sure Tyrion is a Targaryen as well. The popular fan theory claims that Tyrion is actually the illegitimate son of Aerys "The Mad King" Targaryen, making him Daenerys' half-brother, which would be super awkward for anyone that ships them. Then again, people still ship Cersei and Jaime Lannister, so I guess to each their own.

The theory mostly comes from the books from which the show is based. In the novels, it's said that even after Tyrion's parents, Tywin and Joanna Lannister, were married, Aerys was still in love with her. It was even rumored that Aerys took "unwanted liberties" with Joanna during her bedding ceremony after she was married. Many believe since Aerys was king, at some point he raped Joanna, and Tyrion was the product of that. It would also explain why Tywin hated Tyrion so much.

Whether or not you believe the theory, it would be nice to see Jon and Tyrion join forces with Daenerys and take down Cersei and the White Walkers. Will it happen, though? Thankfully, fans won't have to wait much longer to find out.

Game of Thrones Season 7 premieres on Sunday, July 16 on HBO.
