Maks' Return To 'DWTS' May Take A While

by Chrissy Bobic

For diehard Dancing With the Stars fans, having Maks return for Season 24 was pretty special. Since he’d previously announced that he wouldn’t be coming back after becoming a dad, the news that he would, in fact, be present and accounted for was exciting. Then, before his Week 2 performance with Heather Morris, he suffered a calf injury and he just underwent surgery for it. So will Maks return to Dancing With the Stars again this season or has this mishap taken him out of the race for good?

According to E! News, the pro dancer will need a few weeks to recover from his injury sustained during rehearsals, so as long as Heather can hold down the fort, a.k.a. the dance floor, along with stand-in pro Alan Bersten, Maks should be able to slip back into his place alongside her on the show. But nothing is completely certain and right now, Maks is actually still recovering in Ohio, where he had surgery at Seeds Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.

In an Instagram post, Maks wrote, "Thank you all for so much love and support! And for having @heatherrelizabethh back with all your votes. I'm also very excited about her and @alanbersten Tango next week. Please rest assured that I'm taking this thing very seriously and, although I don't have a concrete return date, I'll give it my all!" I definitely don’t doubt that he’s doing his best to recover, but even when he heals, will Maks be back on DWTS?

The fact that he’s up and moving around is probably a really good sign, but by the time he fully recovers, will Heather still be competing or will she have been eliminated by then? Luckily, Alan has been an amazing partner by her side and the pair even ended up with a combined score of 30/40 for Week 2, pretty much guaranteeing that they won't be eliminated in Week 3. However, the pair will have to continue to dominate if Heather wants to be able to stick around long enough for Maks to be able to make his come back.

Maks’ fiancée and fellow DWTS pro Peta spoke to Access Hollywood about her soon-to-be-hubby’s injury and confirmed that it’s going to be a semi-long road to recovery for the dancer. "It's going to take weeks to get better," Peta said. "He's having a surgery done... then rehab starts after that, so it’s serious in that regard." Luckily, Heather’s in good hands with Alan, but fans are likely going to be hoping for Maks to return to DWTS as soon as he’s able so he can finish out the season in top form.
