Peter's Odds Of Being The Next 'Bachelor' Are High

by Kathleen Walsh

2017's Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay has pared down her choices to just four guys: Dean, Eric, Peter, and Bryan. Peter and his lovable gap-toothed smile has captured Bachelor Nation's collective heart, but I'm not convinced he'll get the final rose. If I'm right in this assertion, will Peter be the next Bachelor? I don't know about you, but my fingers are crossed that he'll be the next one to be giving out roses.

As an amateur Bachelor scholar, my educated guess is that Rachel is going to pick Bryan in the end. Peter got a one-on-one date in the first week, but didn't get another until he and Rachel had a romantic dog-sled date in the Swiss Alps. While the producers and editors wanted viewers to believe that Peter was having second thoughts by airing him saying, "In those bad days, I'm not sure if I want to stay," he immediately clarified his position during the episode by adding, "But I always figured that the connection that we built on the very first day was enough to get me through those darker days."

Apparently it was, as both Rachel and Peter agreed they were glad that he stayed. I think I speak for all Bachelorette devotees when I say "Me too!" But if he doesn't win Rachel's heart in the end, with Peter get his chance as The Bachelor?

According to an article in E! News with Alycia Rossiter, a producer of all three Bachelor shows, the process for selecting the next star of the series has two main components. The first is finding someone who's a fan-favorite, that everybody likes and wants to see more of. "We always look for fan favorites," she told the site. The show actually conducts polls to find out who the audience really wants to see.

The second part is making sure the proposed contestant is actually genuine. They don't want someone who's just there to make a splash and get famous. The next Bachelor has to be earnestly looking for the love of his life. "We really want to find someone who honestly wants to get married and start their adult life in a partnership. There's so many factors. The audience has to love them, but if you love them and I think they're just in it for a rollercoaster ride that's no good for us," she said.

As far as I am concerned, that pretty much makes Peter a shoe-in. Everybody wants him, and it definitely seems like he's there for the "right reasons." So much so, that he actually told Rachel he wouldn't propose if he didn't feel like it was absolutely right.

Then again, maybe the show will throw us another curveball and cast fan-favorite from JoJo's season, Luke Pell. In either case, sign me up.
