18 New Year's Eve Instagram Captions Perfect For All Your Festive Pics

by Cat Bowen and Christina Petruzzi

If you're not doing it for the 'gram, why are you doing it? Sure, it could be for your own personal enjoyment and fulfillment, but let's be reasonable here, you didn't curate the perfectly stylish table of bubbly, poppers, top hats and appetizers for your partner to gawk over. Of course not, you did it for likes. And the best Instagram captions on New Year's Eve will capture that moment in time exactly the way you want. Whether you're going for flippant end-of-the-world jokes or something more meaningful, there is a a way to say what you want easily and succinctly.

It's simple enough to go through your favorite quote websites and find something that fits, but that can lack a certain je ne sais quois. That's why you'll not only find quotes and song lyrics, but also some original quotes for you to use and use on your feeds for when you find you need a little extra help in the caption category. As far as helping you with your makeup, or what to serve up at your party, well, you're pretty much on your own, there. But words are my bread and butter and here are a few that will fit.

1

For Your Food Posts

I love taking pictures of food and posting them to instagram. Most of the time, I put a simple description of what it is that I'm eating, but sometimes I go deeper.

"I made this lovingly with the blood of my enemies and only the best Two-Buck Chuck. If you can't get the blood fresh, store-bought is fine."

2

For Your Party Picture

“Music is the wine which inspires one to new generative processes, and I am Bacchus who presses out this glorious wine for mankind and makes them spiritually drunken.” — Beethoven

Beethoven was a lover and a partier, and a hell of a composer. Why not harken back to his messages of fun at your own party? So what if it's just your phone hooked up to your speaker. You're making that music, dang it.

3

For Your Toast Picture

"Too much of anything is bad, but too much Champagne is just right." — Mark Twain, via The Atlantic

Mark Twain. Social Justice Warrior. Amazing author. Metaphor master. Drinker of bubbly.

4

For The Pictures Of Your Slippers When You Get Home

You know the minute you step in your house, the heels are off, and your fuzzy slippers are on. There's a lot to be said about comfort, but I prefer to be silly. "You can never take too much care over the choice of your shoes. Too many women think that they are unimportant, but the real proof of an elegant woman is what is on her feet." —Christian Dior, Harper's Bazaar

5

For Your Dance Pictures

"The music stopped, but we were still dancing/Which goes to show that music has charm/The lights were low so we kept on dancing/I felt the glow of you in my arms." Frank Sinatra from Higher and Higher

6

For Your Kiss Picture

I've been married since the beginning of time, but I still kiss my hubs every New Year's Eve, and whenever else I can.

"There's no better way to end a year than with love, and there's no better way to start the year fresh than some light over the clothes groping."

Or, if you want something more serious: “Make me immortal with a kiss.” — Marlowe's Faustus

For The Picture Of Your Sleeping Children Who Could Not Hang

My daughter never makes it to midnight. She's tried twice, and failed twice. Both years I've taken pictures of her prone form, splayed out upon the sofa, bedecked in her New Year's finery. Of course I post that picture to Instagram, it's entirely too cute to avoid.

"It's funny. You take adults, they look lousy when they're asleep and they have their mouths way open, but kids don't. Kids look alright. They can even have spit all over the pillow and they still look alright." — JD Salinger, The Catcher In The Rye

8

With Your Besties

This one is so easy for millennials. “She’s my friend because we both know what it’s like to have people jealous of us.” —Clueless

9

Mirror Selfie

“If you retain nothing else, always remember the most important Rule of Beauty, which is: ‘Who cares?’ ” — Tina Fey, Bossypants

10

For The Group Pic

“For last year's words belong to last year's language

And next year's words await another voice.

And to make an end is to make a beginning."

"Little Gidding" ― T.S. Eliot

“Come, gentlemen, I hope we shall drink down all unkindness.” — William Shakespeare, The Merry Wives of Windsor

New Year’s Eve is the time to set differences aside and come together to celebrate new beginnings. This quotes pairs well with a party candid of you and your party guests popping open yet another bottle of bubbly.

12

For the unapologetic selfie

“Bad vibes, get off of me, outta here with that f*ckery.”— Ariana Grande, Victoria Monet, “MONOPOLY”

If “new year, new me” just isn’t doing it and you need to manifest good energy with a more impactful quote, this one is perfect. This year get over the bad vibes and tell your followers you’re ready for a new beginning. This quote also puts out a warning for anyone you want to leave in 2019 because their negativity is unwelcome.

13

For the full-length outfit picture

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do.” — Mark Twain

Take a picture of your entire ensemble that screams no regrets. If you took the time to get ready and need a powerful quote to go along with your look, this one will remind you to chase after what you want.

14

For the bathroom selfie with your girls

“You are the finest, loveliest, tenderest, and most beautiful person I have ever known — and even that is an understatement.” — F. Scott Fitzgerald

The bathroom is oftentimes a place radiating with positivity and female empowerment at parties. This quote sounds pretty much like every girl complimenting their besties in the stall, and it’s a great mantra to say aloud to yourself in the mirror because, well, it’s true.

15

For the family photo with the kids

“Having children is like living in a frat house — nobody sleeps, everything’s broken, and there’s a lot of throwing up.” — Ray Romano

If your children are still awake at the stroke of midnight and you get a chance to capture a family photo, this quote is a humorous nod to life as a parent. Just because you’re not partying like you used to pre-kids doesn’t mean your house will look like any less of a disaster.

16

For the picture of you and your partner

“Youth is when you’re allowed to stay up late on New Year’s Eve. Middle age is when you’re forced to.”— Bill Vaughan

You and your partner may prefer staying in bed, in your robes with a cup of tea while the ball drops in Times Square instead of being drowned in confetti and surrounded by loud party-goers — that’s how you know you’re getting older. Make light of a relatable situation if you made plans (with or without a partner) to be in bed well before midnight.

17

For the group picture of the gals you keep closest to you

"Here's to the guys who love us, the losers who lost us, and the lucky bastards that get to meet us." — Carrie Bradshaw, Sex and the City.

If the year was rocky relationship-wise and you want to let your followers (or that specific person) know you’re ready for a better 2020, here’s your quote. It’s a lot less petty than the typical break-up captions floating around and shows that you are unphased by the heartbreak.

18

For that picture with your best friend

"I'll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Year's Day." — Taylor Swift

Anyone can bring something to drink for a NYE party, but it’s those who stick around until the end (or even the next day), helping you haul all the glass, plastic, and aluminum vessels to the recycling bin the next day who are your true BFFs. This one’s an ode to your partner in crime who never lets you down.
