4 Apple Theories For The 'Gilmore Girls' Revival, Because It's Impossible Not To Theorize

by Kathleen Walsh

On Tuesday, the Gilmore Girls Instagram posted a picture of a plate of the classic Gilmore snack Pop-Tarts artfully arranged around an apple with the caption "Pop-Tart appetizers to hold us over 'till the pizza comes. And one apple." Everyone went nuts, as everyone tends to do with every new piece of information that comes out about the Gilmore Girls Revival, and immediately began theorizing that somebody — Lorelai or Rory — is pregnant. I have taken it upon myself to come up with four other apple theories for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life about what this beguiling picture might signify.

For the uninitiated, the pregnancy theory arises from the Season 5 episode "Blame Booze and Melville," wherein Lorelai thinks she might be pregnant because she is suddenly craving apples. She typically never craves any food remotely healthy, except when she was pregnant with Rory, when she craved apples all the time. Other people point out that Lorelai arranged Pop-Tarts in just this way way back in Season 1 in the episode "Concert Interuptus," for Rory and her friends when they were studying. It's also possible, rabid GG fans, that this picture is just a throwback to an old beloved episode. Here is what I think the picture means.

Lorelai & Rory Just Really Like Quirky Plating

Lorelai and Rory Gilmore are no chefs, but they really enjoy food presentation. Unless it's Friday Night Dinner, Lorelai and Rory eat pretty much exclusively junk food. But no matter what's for dinner, be it "pretzels of the world" or Chinese food from Al's Pancake World, they are going to arrange it delightfully.

Lorelai & Rory Are Trying To Reform Their Eating Habits

It's nine years later, and no matter which way you slice it, the Gilmore Girls are getting older. Maybe this apple is a sign that they're trying to take better care of their bodies these days. But they're not going to forgo Pop-Tarts. You know, baby steps.

The Apple Is For Luke

Jess once quipped "No one's a healthy eater like Luke. Yule Gibbons wasn't a healthy eater like Luke." (Full disclosure, I had to Google Yule Gibbons.) From the press photos, it certainly appears that Luke and Lorelai are still together, which means that if Lorelai and Rory are snacking, they're going to have to include at least something for the famously healthy Luke. Maybe the apple is for him.

Lorelai Or Rory Are Pregnant

Or, this could be exactly what we think it is — one of the Gilmore girls is pregnant. It wouldn't be too far-fetched to believe that the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree (get it?) and that Rory might crave apples like her mom does. Or, perhaps Lorelai is the pregnant one? We'll find out when the show premieres November 25 on Netflix.
