9 Subtle Signs Of A UTI

by Lindsay E. Mack

UTIs are painful and fast-acting annoyances. One minute you're fine, and the next, you're at the doctor's office, peeing in a cup. Knowing the subtle signs of a UTI can help you catch the infection before it gets worse (and more painful).

In general, a UTI, or urinary tract infection can involve any portion of your urinary system, particularly the bladder and urethra, according to the Mayo Clinic. These infections develop when bacteria enter your system, often from the urethra, and spread to the rest of your urinary system. According to WebMD, an intense urge to urinate is often a key sign that an infection is present. If you suspect a UTI is causing you trouble, then a trip to the doctor's office for can test your urine for the presence of UTI bacteria, and give you the antibiotics needed to fight it off.

That said, feeling like you need to urinate all the time is not the only sign of a UTI. Other symptoms, including fever and stomach upset, can also point to the presence of this invasive bacteria. Basically, it's smart to watch out for these lesser-known signs of a UTI so you can stay on top of your health.

Cloudy Urine

Is your pee looking overcast? According to MedicineNet, urine that is cloudy may point to a UTI. At the very least, keep an eye out for other symptoms.

3

Smelly Urine

A little fever might no be something to ignore. According to the National Kidney Foundation, a fever may indicate your UTI has spread to the kidneys and you need to see a doctor now.

5

6

7

Trembling

Feeling shaky? Trembling, especially when accompanied by chills or sweating, is associated with a UTI, according to Medline Plus. Paying attention to your body's symptoms is crucial.

8

Blood In Urine

Granted, you're pretty accustomed to seeing blood down there. But as noted by the American Pregnancy Association, seeing blood in your urine may indicate a UTI. Does anything else seem amiss with your health?

9

Burning Sensation

Experiencing a burning sensation when you pee is no fun at all. But according to the Mayo Clinic, feeling like everything burns when you urinate is often the sign of a UTI. Hopefully, a trip to your doctor will have it all cleared up in no time.
