Bill Cosby Comments After Arrest, & What He Said Is A Very Loaded Five Words

by Kimberly Zapata

Just a few hours before midnight on New Year's Eve, Bill Cosby commented after his arrest earlier this week. While Cosby didn’t have much to say, and the comedian surely wasn’t making any jokes, he did thank his fans for their support. In a post on Twitter, Cosby wrote:

Friends and fans, Thank you.

On Wednesday, Cosby was charged with felony aggravated indecent assault. The charges came about after a former Temple University employee, Andrea Constand, claimed Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her in his Elkins Park, Pennsylvania home. While Cosby’s intentions may have been benign enough (I mean, who doesn't thank their supporters on Twitter when they're under indictment; It's just what you do!), many were enraged by his five word Tweet. One response read, "You're not welcome, while another asked "You kidding, man?" and still other questioned what “fans” he still had left.

So far, more than 50 women have accused Cosby of drugging and/or sexually assaulting them. And while Cosby and his attorneys have denied any and all allegations, it seems many people have already chosen sides/who to believe. Well, sort of: Some are saying Cosby must be guilty while others are saying he is innocent until proven guilty. So they aren’t saying he didn’t do it, they are just saying they won’t believe it until a jury does. (Through a few are believe Cosby should be freed regardless, and are using the hashtag #FreeCosby to convey their message. Cool story, bros.)

But how do the women actually involved feel? On Thursday, some of Cosby’s accusers spoke out about his arrest. Victoria Valentino was happy to see Cosby was finally getting the “justice” he deserved, and Kaya Thompson referred to the charges as “prayers answered.” However, none of his accusers has responded to his latest remarks (I doubt they will, and I kinda hope they don’t).

Regardless of what happens next, it seems this story is just beginning to unfold.
