Why Chrissy Teigen Is Hesitant About A Second Pregnancy

by Korey Lane

At this point in time, it's pretty safe to say that Chrissy Teigen is a national treasure. From her glorious Snapchat stories, legendary handling of Twitter trolls, and awesome dancing skills on Lip Sync Battle, Teigen is the hero of 2017 we all need. But, she's still human, and she still deals with many of the same things the rest of us do. Teigen has long been outspoken about her fertility struggles, as well as her own postpartum depression. And now, in a sit-down Marie Claire, Teigen has opened up again, and delivered some major truth bombs. Getting real about new motherhood and her experiences with baby Luna, Teigen admitted she was worried about having another child, and her reasoning is completely understandable.

In a revealing new profile, Teigen shared that she not only battled with postpartum depression, but that "she was also diagnosed with anxiety, which she treats with an antidepressant." It's because of those issues that Teigen is unsure of becoming pregnant again.

"Maybe I should be scared [of having PPD again], but I don't know," she said. "It couldn't be any worse than it was–could it?" she said. Obviously, the decision to have a child is 100 percent a woman's choice to make, and all women have different opinions on the matter, but Teigen's hesitance towards the notion makes total and complete sense.

Dealing with postpartum depression is no easy feat, and Teigen has been outspoken with how she's handled it, and why she decided to speak about it in the first place. "I’m speaking up now because I want people to know it can happen to anybody and I don’t want people who have it to feel embarrassed or to feel alone," she wrote in a March essay for Glamour. "I also don’t want to pretend like I know everything about postpartum depression, because it can be different for everybody."

Now, Teigen has opened up again, this time reflecting on whether she and husband John Legend want to have any more children. "I would definitely adopt or have foster children," she explained. "But I loved being pregnant." Similarly, Teigen told Glamour readers that she's thought a lot about having more kids. "I love John and Luna more than I can imagine loving anything, and John and I still hope to give Luna a few siblings," she wrote. "Postpartum hasn’t changed that."

Whether Teigen and Legend decide to have more kids, or adopt more kids, or choose to let 1-year-old Luna remain an only child, it's 100 percent their choice. And no matter what, Teigen will forever and always remain a national treasure.
