How To Use A Vibrator After A C-Section

by Tessa Shull

After having a baby via C-section, the lack of energy and abundance of pain can move sex pretty far down on the priority list. But that doesn't mean that you won't want to explore other avenues in the meantime. If you're wondering how soon you can use a vibrator after a C-section, you're not alone. If you haven't gotten the approval from your doctor to resume sexual activity or just aren't ready for intercourse, finding other ways to be intimate with your partner (or just yourself) is totally normal. Luckily, it's not too long of a wait if you're hoping to use a vibrator for external stimulation.

Delivering a baby by means of a C-section generally creates a completely different postpartum experience . You'll have your own unique concerns about sex and vibrator use. In the large majority of cases, however, Mayo Clinic noted that the body will need a solid six weeks to recover from a C-section. Because of this, it's best to wait for your healthcare provider's OK before using a vibrator, or anything else, for penetration purposes.

According to Trimester Talk, however, there's still no reason you can't orgasm or use external clitoral stimulation as soon as you're comfortable doing so postpartum. For most women, that's about a week after birth. So, using a vibrator externally should be fine, but it's still always a safe move to check with your physician if you have any concerns or uncertainties.

Additionally, it's important to remember that every woman's body reacts differently postpartum and after a C-section. While some women might feel comfortable with exploring external stimulation not long after birth, others may have no interest whatsoever. There's no right or wrong approach to when you're feeling up to intimacy after birth. If you're feeling healed and want to use a vibrator to satisfy needs, give yourself at least a week postpartum and consider double-checking with your doctor. It's also very important to remember there should be no penetration for at least six weeks — only external stimulation.
