How To Get The Emoji Mom Keyboard & Finally Communicate Your Parenting Needs In Emoji Form

by Kaitlin Kimont

Avocados and unicorns already have a place on your phone’s keyboard and while they’re amazing and fun to use from time to time, most emoji don’t exactly come in handy when you need convey a specific parenting or pregnancy-related message. Well, that should no longer be an issue because you can now download a keyboard that features 250 parenting-themed emoji, including plenty of breastfeeding and pumping moments, a potty training baby, and a very pregnant mama with lower back pain. They’re spot on and figuring out how to get the emoji mom keyboard is quite simple, and will only set you back $1.99.

The new iOS keyboard for expectant moms and parents, EmojiMom, was created by Sarah Robinson, Hannah Hudson, and Natalie Ralston. It was released on iTunes just last week on July 30 and has received glowing reviews since, with a four and half star current rating.

"With EmojiMom, I can share the weird, hard, wonderful, beautiful small details of what it means to be a new mom with my friends who are going through the same things," one iTunes reviewer wrote of the app. "It means a lot to me, and I really appreciate the work that has gone into sharing my life with my friends."

EmojiMom works similarly to other third-party keyboards, like Kim Kardashian's Kimoji or any GIF keyboard. After you purchase the app for $1.99 from iTunes, follow these simple steps to get it on your keyboard:

  1. Go to "Settings" in your phone and select "General"
  2. Select "Keyboard" and after you've entered the next page, tap on "Keyboard" again
  3. Tap "Add New Keyboard..." and simply find and tap "EmojiMom"
  4. Open any messaging application you'd like — Snapchat, Twitter, iMessage, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger — and search through the app by holding on the globe icon to switch the keyboard
  5. Search through the app to find the emoji you'd like to send and simply press on the chosen emoji to copy it, then paste into the message space
  6. Send away!

As of right now, the app appears to only be compatible with up-to-date (requires iOS 9.2 or later) Apple products, such as iPhones and iPads. But, with the raving feedback the emoji have gotten so far, the three EmojiMom founders — all of whom are full-time working moms with young babies — might have the resources to expand the app to a larger market in the near future.

"We want to help pregnant women and moms connect with one another about that stuff," Sarah Robinson, one of the founders, told the Huffington Post on Thursday. "After all, when you’re a new mom, texting is more than just fun ― it’s often your lifeline."

Even though an avocado can be used to compare the size of your bundle of joy at 16 weeks, there just isn't a more accurate set of emoji other than EmojiMom that lets you communicate all of your parenting needs with a simple tap.
