Prince Harry & Meghan Markle's Engagement Photos Are Here, & They're Breathtaking

by AnnaMarie Houlis

Kensington Palace took to Twitter Thursday morning to release Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's official engagement photos, and they're nothing short of stunning. The photographs were shot earlier this week at Frogmore House in Windsor by fashion photographer Alexi Lubomirski, according to People.

The first photo shows Markle and Prince Harry sitting on a set of steps, holding hands, donning a black gown and a blue suit. The second photo is black and white and shows the couple embraced, laughing in love. The ring, designed by Harry himself, is sparkling in both photographs. Photographer Lubomirski said, according to a statement from the palace, People reported:

It was an incredible honor to be asked to document this wonderful event, but also a great privilege to be invited to share and be witness to this young couple’s love for one another. I cannot help but smile when I look at the photos that we took of them, such was their happiness together.

Markle, 36, is the latest actor to be photographed by Lubomirski, whose previous subjects have included actors like Julia Roberts, Julianne Moore, and Angelina Jolie, according to The Guardian. Markle, who's American, is best known for her role in the legal drama, Suits.

Prince Harry and Markle announced their engagement on Nov. 27, following a statement from Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip who said they were "delighted for the couple and wish them every happiness," according to People. He proposed at Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace in London.

The couple was all smiles when they posed for the first photos after their announcement at an open-air photocall at the palace’s Sunken Garden, which serves as a memorial to Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, according to The Telegraph.

The release of Thursday's official photos comes in the same fashion as Harry's older brother Prince William's engagement photos, People pointed out. Prince William and Kate Middleton, too, shared two photos just after their engagement in December 2010.

This morning's excitement comes just one day after Markle joined the royal family for Queen Elizabeth II’s annual Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace, and Markle will also travel to Sandringham — their sprawling estate in Norfolk, just over 100 miles north of London — with Harry to join them for Christmas, The Daily Mail reported.

The palace has said in a statement, "You can expect to see the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry and Ms. Markle at Sandringham on Christmas Day," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The royal family exchanges gifts on Christmas Eve and attends a church service at St. Mary Magadalene Church together on Christmas Day. Then they come together for a gala lunch and, sometimes, a walk in the woods, The Hollywood Reporter adds.

We've still got a little ways away thereafter before the wedding, which, according to The Sun, will take place in May 2018 at St. George’s Chapel, which is situated at Windsor Castle where the Queen and Prince Philip live for most of the year. It's supposedly the same church where Harry was Christened at three months old in 1984, and it's just a brief walk from Eton College, where he went to school.

Despite its special meaning for the couple, Harry and Markle still had to seek permission to marry at St. George’s Chapel because, unlike parish churches, not just anyone can apply to tie the knot there. The Sun reported that among the few who can are knights, residents of Windsor Castle, residents of the College of St, George, and the royals.

"Her Majesty The Queen has granted permission for the wedding to take place at the Chapel," reads a statement from Kensington Palace, according to UsWeekly. "The Royal Family will pay for the wedding."

Until those photos, I'm going to be over here marveling, falling in love with their love.
