What Anal Sex Feels Like When You're Pregnant

by Michele Zipp

By virtue of gestating a human, sex is going to feel different. Anal sex, however, comes with its own set of considerations and knowing what anal sex feels like when you're pregnant depends on a lot of factors.

Thanks to hormonal fluctuations, some women feel extra horny during pregnancy and, in some cases, extra adventurous. And pregnancy shouldn't stop you from trying new things in the bedroom. Anal can feel fabulous anytime, as long as you are into it. After all, sex, no matter the type is all about desire, consent, and figuring out how to make it most pleasurable for you.

In talking to several friends who enjoyed anal before and during pregnancy, most said they didn't feel a difference. In fact, some prefer it during pregnancy because there was a sort of "separation" from the baby, which can freak people out. That being said, first-timers should take it slow, as one said anal can make it feel like your partner is going deeper.

To enjoy any kind of sex, you have to feel safe doing it. Women often worry most about their bodies when they are pregnant, and rightfully so. This is why it's important to consult your OB-GYN about having sex in regards to any complications you may have or if you are high-risk. Dr. Gina Brown, OB-GYN, wrote on Baby Center that anal sex should be avoided if you have certain pregnancy complications, such as placenta previa, because it could harm the placenta.

Provided there are no complications or issues restricting you, pregnant women can and should experience pleasure and orgasms. "Be sure that your partner does not go directly from anal to vaginal sex without washing his penis," social worker Rachel Hoffman tells Romper in an interview. She says this is to prevent bacteria from entering the vagina. Hoffman also stresses the importance of lubrication, especially when it comes to preventing pregnancy hemorrhoids, and using a condom if you're not practicing monogamy.

Finally, and most important, Hoffman says you need to be in tune with how it feels for you. "If it doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t right," she says. "So if you are in pain, feel discomfort, or have an atypical reaction, please consult with your OB-GYN.”

With all that in mind, it's worth repeating that anal sex can be really pleasurable during pregnancy. It's something you do not have to stop doing if you did it before, and it's definitely something you can try for the first time. Spicing up your sex life anytime is always a good idea, and keeping that bond with your partner is vital. Pregnancy shouldn't prevent anyone from living out their sexual desires.
