What To Do If You're Horny & On Bed Rest?

by Michele Zipp

Being pregnant means a range of emotions constantly pop up, and feeling extra sexual often comes with the territory. Unfortunately, those feelings don't always stop when you need to be on bed rest. In fact, for some, being told they cannot have sex makes them want to have sex even more. If you're wondering what to do if you're horny and on bed rest, there are some solutions.

Before you embark on any sexual or intimate exploration during a high-risk pregnancy, it's always best to consult your OB-GYN. "Most pregnant patients are on bed rest due to premature labor, short cervix, bleeding, or hypertension," Dr. Daniel Roshan, a high-risk OB-GYN specialist tells Romper. "Intercourse increases the risk of vaginal infection, bacterial vaginosis, cervical shortening, and dilation, in each instance intercourse is harmful and best is to avoid it."

Bed rest for a high-risk pregnancy also most likely means no oral, anal, nipple stimulation, or masturbation. Abstaining can be frustrating especially since in some cases, your labia can feel swollen and more sensitive during pregnancy, as OB-GYN Dr. Mary L. Rosser OB-GYN told Parents magazine.

But fear not. You do not have to suffer without finding some way to get your rocks off, even if it's not as mind-blowing as what you're used to before you ended up on bed rest.

If you're into it and able, you can pleasure your partner with oral or a hand-job. You may also want to consider an old-fashioned make out session. Being on bed rest could be the perfect time to get smooching and really make-out, rub each other's bodies, just be close together. Keep sensuality in the mix by cuddling, too. Plus, according to Elite Daily, couples who cuddle are happier and more connected than those who don't. Make kissing and cuddling the new oral and sex when you're on bed rest.

Another option is to write down your thoughts. According to Psychology Today, keeping a journal with positive thoughts can help you be influenced by them later. So jot down all the steamy bits you wish you could be doing, and revisit them after baby arrives. This could be the perfect spark to re-ignite the passion after taking a break for so long.

Being sentenced to bed rest and not being able to have sex is something no woman wants to hear. But getting creative is always a good idea, especially when it comes working on the art of intimacy.
