Why Did JoJo Send Wells Home On ‘The Bachelorette’? It Wasn't Easy For Her

by Anna Rose Iovine

On Monday night's episode of The Bachelorette, JoJo's first solo date in Argentina goes to Wells. Her note says "kiss me" in Spanish, commenting on the fact that they hadn't yet. Unfortunately, their first kiss was their last, and JoJo did not give him a rose. Why did JoJo send Wells home on The Bachelorette?

When the note announcing Wells and JoJo's one-on-one date was read out loud, the other guys were shocked that the two hadn't kissed yet. In fact, Wells was the only one of the remaining contestants that hadn't kissed her up to that point. Obviously with that note, JoJo was making it clear that she wanted that to change. The date started out slow and a bit awkward. Wells was trying to figure out the perfect moment to kiss her; he'd waited that long, so he wanted it to be perfect.

After a few missteps, Wells and JoJo kissed during their date. "That was the moment, Wells," JoJo told him. Wells echoed her language in a talking head, saying, "We had the moment...erratic, terrified Wells was falling away." Wells was confident about the kiss, and thought it was well worth the wait.

JoJo, however, felt differently. After their date she sat Wells down and asked him about his past romantic life. There was also a bit of awkwardness – Wells had to take off his coat, which he blamed on the room temperature as opposed to his nervousness – but he opened up to her about his last relationship, which lasted four years. In the end, he and his now-ex realized they were better as friends.

JoJo grabbed the rose, but held it as she spoke. She said the kiss "did not feel 100 percent like I wanted it to." JoJo wanted him to know, though, how much she respected him. "You are an incredible human being," she said, "I don't know if you are the person I can spend the rest of my life with." She, too, thought they might be better off as friends. Because of that, she could not give Wells the rose.

So it turns out that Wells and JoJo's highly anticipated first kiss also happened to be their last. JoJo commented that at this point she has to start making "hard decisions," and not giving Wells a rose was definitely one of them. This was clearly not an easy move for JoJo to make; if it's any indication of future rose ceremonies, she may be as heartwrenched as the contestants.
