Fans Are Eager For A Jon Snow & Daenerys Romance On 'Game Of Thrones'

by Kathleen Walsh

It only took six seasons, but Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen finally met up and is it just me, or is it a little hot in here? Viewers have been anxiously waiting to see this relationship play out, but will Jon Snow and Daenerys hook up on Game of Thrones? It's a possible theory that lots of people want to see happen, even if it's a little weird seeing as the two are technically related. (They don't know that though.)

The end of Season 6 proved that a longtime fan theory was correct: Jon Snow is not Ned Stark's bastard after all. Instead he is the child of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryan. If you've been paying attention to your Westeros history, you'll know that Rhaegar Targaryen was Daenerys' brother, who was killed by Robert Baratheon in battle. This makes Daenerys Jon's aunt. So yes, it would definitely be incest if Jon and Dany were to get together, but it's not like that's ever stopped this show before in any way.

The very first episode featured Jaime and Cersei Lannister having sex, and they are twins. The Targaryens are also famous for marrying brother to sister in order to keep their dragon bloodlines pure. It wouldn't have seemed odd from a Targaryen perspective for Dany to have married her brother Viserys. Also, let's not forget, Jon and Dany don't actually know they're related, as they've never met before. It still seems way less creepy for Jon and Dany to hook up than, say, Jon and Sansa (which is another fan theory). But will it happen?

The books and the show have shown a lot of parallels between Jon and Dany, which could possibly translate into "We have so much in common!" They both lost their first loves in brutally tragic ways. They both rose to their positions of power largely on their own merit. They are both compassionate leaders who reached out to cultures generally believed to be lesser than their own, Dany with the Dothraki and Jon with the Wildlings. And most importantly, they bring together ice (Jon) and fire (Dany), recalling the title of the book series, A Song of Ice and Fire. Oh and they're both single, approximately the same age, and ridiculously attractive.

Others, however, like redditor adca8662, point out that a marriage between Jon and Dany would cause all sorts of problems, particularly amongst their followers. Where would they live? Would their people be cool with it? And since Dany can't have children, who'd take over after they died?

All this considered, I tend to think a hook up and an alliance will happen, but I'd be surprised if it ended up turning into something long-lasting. We'll just have to wait and see.
