No matter your age, your first French kiss was probably awkward and bumbling in the most endearing way possible. I was 14-years-old, and I remember being a little grossed out and not having a single clue what I was doing. While I like to think I've gotten better at it (If my boyfriend is reading this, I could use some affirmation, OK?), there are still plenty of mistakes you make while French kissing.
I know, French kissing isn't too complicated (although it definitely seemed that way when I was 14), but that doesn't mean it doesn't require some technique. It's more than just kissing with mouths open, right? It's full of affection, romance, and can quickly heat up any night without requiring a lot of fancy maneuvers or tricks. French kissing in a good old-fashioned make-out sesh is also a great use of foreplay and is something people often forget to do when they’re in a long-term relationship. Maybe the lack of practice accounts for some of the more common French kissing mistakes, or maybe it's just general laziness. There's Too Much Tongue
Too much tongue means too much saliva which means the kiss is sloppy, messy, and gross. Don't be that person. Don't try to lick the inside of your partner's mouth, OK?

There's No Hand Or Body Contact
A good make-out session needs more than just a lip lock. Use your hands to run through your partner's hair, or have them grab you around the waist (or a handful of booty, let's be honest). Get as handsy as you like once it really starts heating up.

There's No Tongue Action
Even if you think you're using your tongue, you may not be. French kissing requires more than a tongue just sitting in your partner's mouth. Flick it, rub your tongue against your partner's, trace their lips with your tongue — anything other than letting it sit in there to just create more saliva.

Now is not the time for anyone to be looking into the other person's eyes. It's seriously bizarre, distracting, and you look kind of creepy. Close those eyes and enjoy the moment.

Noses smashed up together does not make for a sexy kiss, you guys. There's got to be a head tilt from both of you to make your lips match up perfectly.

Teeth Are Clacking Together
Nothing sets me more on edge than the sound and feel of my teeth hitting someone else's in the middle of a kiss. The head tilt can help this, but make sure you're leading the kiss with your tongue if you find your teeth are constantly knocking into each other.

There's a time and a place for dirty talk, but that time is not while you're making out with your partner. Stop trying to talk about what you're going to do to me later while I'm trying to kiss you.

Using Too Much Teeth
A little bite on the lips is sexy and pulling with your teeth can be, too. But if you're basically gnawing on your partner's mouth, you've missed the mark.

Trying To Shove An Entire Tongue Down A Throat
This is first kiss behavior. There is no need to try and hit that dangly thing in the back of your partner's throat with your tongue. It's not a contest to see how far back you can kiss and no one wins in this game. No one.
