These Tweets From The London Bridge Incident Are Chilling

On Saturday evening, news reports began flooding in about an attack on London Bridge. The reports began with a van hitting pedestrians walking along the bridge and have escalated into reported stabbings and gunfire. Despite the horror, the tweets from the London Bridge incident aren't just terrifying — they're incredibly strong, too. With England still healing its wounds from the terrorist attack at the Ariana Grande concert just two weeks ago and the Parliament attack earlier this spring, nobody would blame the country for being absolutely exhausted.

UPDATE: The London Bridge attack has since been declared a terrorist incident, according to the Associated Press. London Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick on Sunday confirmed that the death toll in the London Bridge attack had been raised to seven, not including three of the attackers, with at least 48 others injured. Dick added that the remaining injured had been transported "to five hospitals across London." Some were in critical condition. The three attackers "were fatally shot by officers within eight minutes of the first emergency call," according to The Washington Post. An additional 12 people have also been arrested in connection with the attack.

The nearby Vauxhall stabbing was later declared not to be part of the London Bridge attack, but a separate incident.

EARLIER: The latest news from BBC noted that officials have confirmed at least one fatality in the terror attacks on London Bridge and Borough Market. A van drove into a crowd of pedestrians on London Bridge and shortly after, men began attacking people in public with knives. The Associated Press has reported that police are considering these to be "terrorist incidents."

As the tweets continue to pour in, they are a heartbreaking mix of people looking for loved ones, people explaining what they saw, and people offering their homes to those who are in need. According to BBC, people who live in the area of the attacks are being told to stay somewhere else for the night, and a disturbing video of police asking patrons in a bar to get down on the ground for safety prove just how dangerous it is in London right now.

Social media has its faults, but in the wake of tragedy, it gives a clear picture of what is happening in these scenes. Eyewitnesses are turning to Twitter to share what they saw and what they know, while others are using it to remind the world that London is strong.

The accounts of what happened in London are especially terrifying to read:

But as reports come out that the incident is being treated as terrorism, even more tweets emerge proving that London won't let racism and xenophobia take over their city.

Other tweets offered a safe place for people to stay or to pay for them to get home.

And some were just grateful to have their loved ones home.

Police are continuing to investigate, which means more details will emerge and so will more tweets. While it's easy for many to get swept into the sensationalizing of these events (including the actual President of the United States), these tweets from the London Bridge incident prove that London chooses love over hate every time.
